How Bury Adoption Works

It is for this reason that time and care is taken throughout the assessment, approval, and matching stages to ensure families are as prepared and supported as they possibly can be.

• Prior to accepting an application, we will start by discussing your potential to adopt with you. This doesn’t mean that we are judging you! This stage offers you the chance to learn more about what the process involves, and what adopted children will need from you as their adoptive parent/s. This stage is very important – as it helps would-be parents to decide whether or not adoption in Bury is right for them.
• Once we accept an application, we will work together with you to prepare your Prospective Adopter Report (PAR) which will then be presented to an adoption panel. During this time, you will meet regularly with your allocated social worker who will support you through the process.
• As part of the process we will ask you to share a lot of information in order that we can really get to know your strengths and support needs, not only to present your circumstances at adoption panel, but also to offer the most appropriate advice/guidance at the matching stage. All we ask is that you are open and honest throughout the process as we will be with you.
• Following approval, we will then work with you to match you to a suitable child or children. Your allocated social worker will support you through this journey, ensuring appropriate advice, support and guidance.
