Atlas - Our children's stories

Atlas

Atlas

Atlas is four-year-old and has started school which he says makes him a big boy now!

He has so much fun there and has met lots of new people who he loves to play with.
Atlas just loves using his imagination! He still likes playing on his own with cars, etc, and playing with his foster carer’s son, because they have so much fun together! They laugh a lot, especially when they are doing messy things like painting.

Even though he wears a school uniform now, he still really likes wearing t-shirts with cartoon characters on them. He always wants to show everyone which character is on his top.

His favourites are Fireman Sam and Thomas the Tank Engine. One of the best times for Atlas is sitting at the dinner table with his foster family and having a meal together. He also loves watching football with his male carer - it’s so much fun!

Atlas didn’t experience a safe and stable time in his early life. He now needs a permanent, nurturing family who can offer him safety, stability, and the opportunity to thrive.

Atlas’ foster carer, says: “Atlas is a very sweet and loving little boy who enjoys lots of attention. He depends on routines to feel secure, and he can become frustrated or unhappy when things do not go as he expects, though he is able to manage small changes. He is very tactile and enjoys sensory experiences. He loves playing with toys, especially anything with wheels such as cars, trains, trucks, and buses, which he likes to roll back and forth. He also enjoys watching cartoons. His favourite is Fireman Sam, but he also likes Thomas the Tank Engine, Cocomelon, Masha and the Bear, and Peppa Pig. He has a good appetite, and biscuits are his favourite snack.

Bath time is something he greatly enjoys, especially playing in the water with his toys.

Atlas’ verbal communication was previously limited, but he has now learned many new words and is using them in the correct context. There has been a noticeable positive change in him, along with improved confidence.”

Atlas’s social worker, says: “Atlas is a lovely little boy. He demonstrates a positive response to praise and supportive interactions. He has gained confidence in engaging with others, and his social skills have improved considerably. He has made a good start at school, settling in well and forming good relationships with the staff and other children. His play is self-led play and now includes dinosaurs!”

Atlas has Hungarian heritage and would like a family who can help him understand this. He wants a family who is kind, calm, playful, and fun - just like his carers! He wants to feel safe, loved, and secure. He can’t wait to go on amazing adventures and feel like he truly belongs. He hopes to keep a connection to his birth family by sharing information and writing letters to tell them how he’s growing up.
