Family is family, and here at Adoption Now we welcome your enquiry no matter what your sexuality / family situation. A common myth that still exists is that you cannot adopt if you are LGBT+ and single or in a relationship. But that is just not true. Same sex families have had the right to adopt since December 2005, when The Adoption and Children Act 2002 came into law. This legislation gave unmarried couples and same sex couples the right to adopt.

Despite the myth that still exists, same sex couples can adopt; they do in fact make up a large number of the people who adopt each year. In fact, 17% of adopters with Adoption Now last year were in a same sex relationship. 13% were single adopters.

Here at Adoption Now we are proud members of New Family Social, who are an organisation who work with adoption and fostering agencies to develop their services to be as LGBT+ inclusive and as friendly as possible. Through their research they have found that 1 in 6 adoptions in England in 2021, were to same-sex couples.

We talk a lot about adoption support, and you can be sure that we will be with you every step of your adoption journey. We offer this support in many ways. We have our own team of specialist, therapeutically trained adoption support workers. We have a fantastic mentoring scheme where you can be partnered with one of our experienced adoptive families. They are not connected to any social worker, they are there to offer you support, guidance or if you need it, just someone who is there to listen.
